Brutal calls by umps don’t just shaft the Blue Jays alone, it’s a problem that all of baseball has been talking about for years now and quietly the idea to replace umpires with robots is picking up steam.
Affectionately known as ‘robo-umps’, it would see baseball adopting the use of electronic monitoring to call balls and strikes that removes that responsibility from their human versions.
If you’ve ever actually played baseball, you already know just how fast a 90 MPH fastball comes at you. We’ve seen the broad adoption of instant replay across all sports now, the technology that wasn’t available to us in the past is now playing a much bigger role in modern sports today.
I can remember as a kid anxiously waiting for the newspaper to be delivered every Saturday morning to see all the league stats and follow my favourite players, today the internet allows us to track everything in real-time.
We don’t have to go beyond our regular game broadcasts that already tracks each pitch on our TV screens every night, it allows fans to follow the game and see exactly where umpire mistakes are made. Why aren’t we using it to call balls and strikes in the actual game too?

Baseball purists hate the idea of course, why change something that’s been around since the dawn of baseball that changes the nature of the game itself by taking the human element out of the equation? How about terrible umpires that can change the outcome of the game?
Just how bad can umpires be when calling those balls and strikes? YouTube can always find something for us to watch that definitely entertains.
